Goodbye Summer Hello Autumn

Welcome to September and the night’s drawing in!

Hope this finds you all safe and well, I am sitting here at my desk writing this blog pondering where the summer has gone? In fact, where has this year gone? Don’t get me wrong, will be glad to see the back of it however, please just a few more weeks of lovely weather and a real Indian summer would be great.

I have been asked several times if we plan to continue with our home delivery service, the answer, YES. We will continue to increase the range in both fresh and frozen products and hate to mention it but thoughts will turn towards Christmas and winter entertaining. Recently added to the website is a fresh dish, Rump of Lamb, grilled veg and salsa verde.

We have been sending out lots more picnic boxes for people to celebrate birthdays and special occasions. The box idea allows guests to social distance usually in couples or families, a great way to celebrate.

Soon to go live on our website are grazing boxes, perfect for entertaining. We will need 48 hours notice on orders, boxes can be ordered for between 2-10 guests. Below are an Antipasti box and a Fish box with smoked salmon, Dartmouth crab, smoked mackerel, prawns, aioli, cured beetroot and salad, they all come with fresh bread and are ready to serve.

For me personally I am finally back at work two days a week when nobody else is in the kitchen, thank god as I was starting to go a little crazy. Home on the farm, harvest is all but over with straw coming in off the fields and the plough about ready to go. Lambs have been making good money at market with some farmers starting to tup, so the circle starts again. I have planted winter brassicas, cabbage, broccoli, kale and cauliflowers now the fight issues to keep the pigeons and pests at bay.

The downside of summer holidays coming to an end is the kids are returning to school, for most this is a blessing, however for me it means I must say goodbye to the kids and Sarah. We plan to keep an eye on developments but at present the risk is too great for me to return home with them, a real bitter pill to swallow. Life moves on and we hope a vaccine is on its way.

Keep safe and well everyone and bon appetit x
