Stepping Into June

I trust this finds everyone well and maybe spending more time out and about now that lockdown has eased a little. I myself have been told I can go out for 1 hour a day but having the farm to get lost on, things have not changed really. We enjoyed a touch of rain and now looking at a few grey and cloudy days ahead, must say would just prefer a few rainy days to give everything a drink with a return to sunny days after.

We have been delighted with the lovely comments on our fresh specials, both the Herb Crusted Pollack and the Chicken wrapped in Pancetta and stuffed with cream cheese have gone down a treat. We have just added three salads, Asian Slaw, Roasted Squash & Beetroot with Lentils and Feta (my favourite) and Freekeh Salad with Minted Sumac Dressing. Freekeh for those not in the know is green durum wheat that is roasted and rubbed then cracked into small pieces much like bulgur wheat but with much more flavour.

All the salads come with pots of dressing, we are delighted that these along with the trays are completely compostable, hard to believe as they look just like plastic.

New to the website today are three dressings from the delightful Mays & Green based in East Portlemouth. French Dressing, Mustard Dressing and Oriental dressing, all equally delicious and perfect for summer salads. We discovered these dressings at the Dartmouth Food Festival last year, so sad to see it cancelled this year but look forward to planning you a bumper festival in 2021.

On the farming front, all the bottle-fed lambs are now thriving outside with four moving back into a flock, the last five are still having two feeds a day and the middle four on one feed a day. The veggie patches are thriving and we had the shearers in to scalp the Alpacas, a curious affair social distance shearing with lots equipment being exchanged at two metres with gloves galore!
